Is your name Novinger?
If your name is Novinger and you are a descendant of a Novinger, why not come to
Coal Miner Days and meet others sharing your name during the centennial festivities.

My father was born at Novinger and many of his family lived there and are buried there.
On a visit with my mother I found among her old photos a post card with the Public School at Novinger, MO.
It doesn't have a date on it but it is a $0.01 post card so it is pretty old.

My father Ernest Morris, went to the Novinger High School, graduating in 1923. His Diploma is encased in a midnight blue suede leather cover. The inner lining of the cover is gold satin. The gold text on the front cover says:
Novinger
High School
Ernest Morris
Class of 1923

The Class Motto was "Jogging Onward." Class Colors were Blue and Gold. Class Flower was
the Yellow Rose. The signature on the Diploma are:
B. B. Dowell, Superintendent of School       L. A. Moxley, President  Board of Education
E. W. Brooks, Principal                            O. M. Blackorby, Secretary Board of Education

I live in Wisconsin, but my grandfather Thomas Morris lived in Novinger and worked in the coal mines for more than fifty years. His Social Security Application said his last place of employment was the Rivierside Mine, Novinger. He was 70 years of age at time of application. He came from Hoyland Nether, Yorkshire England in the 1890's. He's buried in the old section of the Novinger Cemetery.

Pretty snazzy Diploma compared to today's rolled up version. Glad you had a web site on Novinger. I really found that interesting on the Baptist rail car.
